Casino History

The Famous Bonanza and Easy Street Casinos in Historic Central City are Colorado’s Classic Casinos. Your hard-earned cash goes farther! Year after year our players enjoy the best odds in Colorado and we can prove it! In 2010 our penny and dollar slot machines payback average was 25% higher than the Black Hawk average.

In all slot denominations, our slots have a lower hold percentage than the competition. Through June 2011, all of our slots were 26% looser than the COLORADO average! That’s HUGE and it means YOU get more time on machine and a better chance to win! Our player rewards are also second to none. Every machine, INCLUDING VIDEO POKER pays 1 point for $1.00. Compare that to other slot club offerings and you will learn that we have the best deal around. Great odds and fewer gimmicks (Some casinos offer 2 and 4 times points but make you play $2 or $4 just to get 1 point, what kind of deal is that?)

You will find your favorite classic coin machines as well as new games, plus the most comfortable Card Parlour on the mountain. If you are looking for a unique Colorado gaming experience with great odds and fewer gimmicks, check us out, you will be glad you did!

Our Casinos are open 365 days per year at 8:00 am daily. We have plenty of free parking, great food and drink, a video arcade for the under 21 set, pool and darts for some old fashion relaxation.

Our History

The original Harris block housing the Famous Bonanza Casino at the south end of Main Street was built in 1876 after a devastating fire consumed most of Central City. The building originally housed A Rittmather & CO Mercantile. It later contained the Rachofsky's New York Mercantile. The second level was a rooming house, a restaurant, and, some say, a house of ill repute during it's first century of existence. The Grimes family purchased the building in 1959 and operated a gift store until January of 1992, shortly after limited stakes gaming was legalized in Colorado. The building was carefully and correctly restored, using antiques from the original building and adding modern amenities to the completely refurbished interior.

The Grimes family mission has remained the same since opening: Give customers the best possible gaming and hospitality experience in Colorado, preserve the unique atmosphere of Central City, and work together as family to be successful. We hope you'll take pleasure inteh ambience of Victorian elegance as you enjoy participating in what we hope you will agree is "the best gaming experience available in the state of Colorado."
